Hola Mi Amigas! :)November 8, 2011
As you can tell, I am getting to be a pro at my Espanol. Ha. NOT! My comp is very good at Spanish so I am learning very slowly how to speak Spanish. It was really cool though, we found a Spanish family from Honduras & Peru on Friday night! We went for a follow up and there was another lady there who was wanting to learn! Sister Underlin taught the lesson, luckily from my random Spanish studies I could understand bits and pieces of what Danelia was saying. I would lean over and have sister Underlin ask her questions or say specific things that came to my mind. It worked out really well! We went back last night with Sister Gomez because she is from Columbia and it was a really good lesson! Danelia has an 8 year old daughter who is such a rockstar, she described that when you pray in faith you will have the confidence that God will take care of you. Danelia's sister in law Sandra is the one from Peru and she was there last night as well, the whole family is very prepared. It is such a blessing and a joy to see why sister Underlin was sent here cause I wouldn't have been able to talk to them like she does nor would any other English speaking sister. I love when situations happen like this! I am praying that I can work on bearing my testimony in Spanish...we will see :)
We found an investigator at this Fire Station down the street from the Liberty Jail and talked to this guy standing outside, Raymond. Well we went back to teach him on Saturday and 2 others joined in on our "gospel time" at the station. They joked that it was gospel time then arts and crafts were going to be after! Haha. The other 2 that joined in were so cool, there is one guy who grew up in Richmond named Hagan and he had lots of good questions about our religion. The other is a girl Elise who grew up Catholic but now is Baptist, she pretended like she wasn't listening and that she didn't really care about what we were saying but their were various times she would stop what she was doing and just listen. She is my favorite haha. I think she will be the one to come to church with us and maybe even get baptized! Whoop! It is just fun to say that we are teaching the Firemen down at the station, only on the mission could that ever happen. Love it!
Sunday was our stake conference and our mission president along with his wife also spoke at it. There was one guy that spoke, Pres Sanford who gave an analogy about us and a pottery wheel. We are the clay that is on the wheel as Heavenly Father is the molder. On the wheels there are lines that help center the clay on the wheel so that the molder can create a beautiful piece of art that is balanced. We all have to make sure that we are in line and centered with Heavenly Father in order for us to become the balanced beautiful pieces of art that He wants us to become. I LOVED that! The best part is how unique and personal all of us are much like pottery cannot really be created exactly the same but can have similarities. Much beauty comes from being reformed or recentered through Christ's help and the Atonement. Many of us wish that we could kind of be formed and just become pieces of art without taking the effort to make sure our lives are in line with what He wants or has for us. I really felt like I personally needed this story because it is such an easy thing to forget about in life but a very important concept. We all must have an evaluation with ourselves and the Lord and trust that He is going to make something more beautiful out of us than we could ever do on our own.
I love you all!! I hope you enjoy the pictures! We have morning breakfasts with some of the senior couples sometimes, we also had the first tour party for the new sisters! Any excuse to party right? :) There is also a funny picture of me in a real china hat with a new investigator of ours who is so funny and sometimes very odd. He is awesome! Enjoy!! :)
Sistaaaaaaaaaa LA r SON!
