Hello Everyone! :)
This past week has been so amazing and full of wonderful spiritual experiences that I could just go on for ever! As far as the people we have found, its been harder trying to find with working in the Jail half the days but we are trying our best. We did go to a part member family with this little boy George who is 11 and told us at that first visit that he wants to get baptized! Haha. Hello missionary dream coming true. His mom however is not a fan of the church even though she used to be a member and was married in the temple. She does support her son in learning and being baptized though which is really awesome! We are going to go back this week and hopefully soften her heart and see both of them at church on Sunday :) We are also teaching a little girl named Lauren who is 13 and so cool. We watched the new Joseph Smith movie at the Liberty Jail and it felt like I was just hanging out with my sister! She isnt sold on being baptized, her parents are supportive either way so we will hopefully see her set a date for baptism...maybe set it this week! We have been visiting with a recent convert Mary who is in her 50's and this awesome ball of energy! I love this woman. We went and did some service at her house yesterday and she showed us her DVD collection which I am pretty sure is the same size as my dad's which is pretty impressive haha. She is a great lady though and her daughter was her example cause she joined the church 2 years ago first. I love how it all works out.
Our Thursday morning training was on Becoming more like Jesus Christ and it was the BEST. The Liberty Zone leaders are both deaf but can kind of talk and they gave the training on Christlike attributes. They brought the spirit SO strongly and are both so humble that I was just in awe of their spirit. They asked us "why we would want to become like Christ" and it was so great to just think about why I would want to become like Christ, who I look up to and love. They challenged us to pick one of his qualities and work on it this week. So far I can already feel a difference in my spirit and I love it. The other sister leaders played a video of a song from Another Testament from The Reflections of Christ and it was sooo beautiful. It was based around Christ coming to the people in the Americas so 3 Nephi 11 and my eyes were just so heavy with tears watching him laugh, smile, hug the people because that is who he is and that is who I want to become.
Sunday was another spiritual feast. Sister Meade in our ward opened her talk with the currant bush story from Hugh B Brown. If you dont know it, I highly recommend looking it up. As she continued her talk she spoke about how we are chastened by Heavenly Father but it is for us to become better. When we are stuck in a frustrating situation, instead of asking "Why??" we need to change our attitudes to "What can I learn from this?" Or "what can I do to make it better". I loved that. How easy it is for me and all of us to sit and complain about the WHY instead of asking Heavenly Father for help with the "what" aspect in our lives. When we feel unsettled about anything in our lives, it is the Holy Ghost telling us that we need to change. We are constantly trying to become better but we cant do it all by ourselves, we need to kneel in humble pray and ask the Lord for His help.
Although I have had a very spiritual week, I know that my low points that I have had this past week have really helped refine me and my testimony. The lows in life help us appreciate the high points. I am grateful so much for learning more about becoming better in my life and how to be more like Christ. The prophet Joseph Smith had more than his fair share of struggles but he stayed faithful through it all. Before he entered the Liberty Jail he said, "Good afternoon gentlemen" to the guards. What a man of true character, a man just like Jesus Christ. I love this gospel and Joseph Smith so much. I hope you all have a strong testimony of both of them. I know I have grown to believe so strongly like I never had before and it gives me so much more peace. I love you all and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
