This past week is full of fun events and some of our normal bitter sweet Chillicothe moments. Since Tuesday was Valentines Day, we decided that we wanted to make dinner as a surprise from the Sperry's who we live with! It was a lot of fun trying to keep it a secret from Sister Sperry, but of course like most moms do, she had an idea something was up. They said it tasted good though and it was a fun night! We met up with our usual Tuesday night family and went up to Gallatin afterwards. A girl named Margaret has been coming to church for the past 2 years, came from a fundamentalist family in Utah but has stayed with the LDS church. She finally got approval to be baptized from the first presidency and on Tuesday she was interviewed by our mission pres who gave her the last go ahead! She is getting baptized this Saturday and its going to be amazing with lots of people to celebrate. We're very excited for her :)
My favorite day was Wednesday, all of our appointments happened and nothing fell through!! Peter came with us again and our investigator Rusty opened up a lot about his past. He also explained a very sacred baptism experience he had when he was 27. He has made so much progress and reads the Book of Mormon all the time, even when he comes home from working the night shift, he picks it up to read! He said ever since he's had that book he hasn't picked up his Bible and it weird-ed him out haha. He is a fun guy! Were excited for him, things are slow since his wife isn't 100% supportive but when we were leaving, I invited her to sit in with us next time and she actually said okay!! Whoot whoot! :) Our appt is tomorrow again and I am praying that its another great experience. Later that night we went to dinner at the local Mexican restaurant and I of course told our waiter it was Sis. Barnum's birthday. He got the hint that I was just kidding but still said okay. Before I knew it, all the waiters were serenading us, putting a GIANT red sombrero on her head while trying to spoon feed her ice cream!!!! Hahaha. It. Was. EPIC. Sadly I didn't have my camera to take a picture but it will be a moment I will never forget :D
This other couple we have been trying to progress is Alexis and Jimmy. Alexis' friend Becky moved in with them this past week too so now we are teaching them all. But Alexis is one that ditched us last week and this week, she testified to her friend Becky how ever since meeting with us things have been getting better! Then she also testified about the fact we lived with Heavenly Father before we came to this Earth! It was a big surprise and really amazing. They made goals to stop swearing, slow down their temper and try to be better at reading together. They haven't been very good at keeping commitments so we are praying that they stay true to their word.
Many of the families out in our branch continue to surprise us with how fun they are once we get in their homes! As we get to know them better, we have become very close to some amazing families. Living in this area is not easy and being LDS makes it even harder so you can only imagine the kind of members we have out here. I am grateful for them and the opportunity to learn from all of them. Its kind of crazy how many people have been in jail or prison in this town too. It seems as if there is every problem you can imagine in this town. We are fighting Satan. I know that the Lord really did send Sister Barnum and I out here for a reason. Today we had to go down to Liberty so I called some of the Liberty sisters to meet us for lunch and it was such a fun time! Sis Underlin is so amazing, I miss that girl. She keeps reminding me that they don't just call any sister to an area like Chillicothe, they send the tough ones who can handle it. I find myself repeating those positive type words when the days get rough. I have had to look deeper in my heart for the blessings of every day and I cannot even tell you how grateful I am for EVERYTHING. I love being up here in the middle of no where and really getting to sink my testimony deeper and deeper. The best part is, Sister Barnum and I get to have fun every single day no matter what happens. She makes me laugh ALL the time, which I am sure you all know is pretty easy but hey that's okay! I like to laugh :D I am still working on toning down my loudness though....maybe one day ;-)
I love you all very much!!! Happy President's Week! I hope you are all staying warm and remembering to say your prayers and read your scriptures EVERY DAY! :)
Love
SISTAAAA LARSON
